Kanye West is facing legal action after a former employee of his private school in California alleged that he was fired after reporting unsafe conditions in the school.
Isaiah Meadows, a former gym teacher at the school, filed the lawsuit on Thursday, claiming wrongful termination, breach of contract, and violations of multiple health and safety codes. Meadows started working as an assistant principal at Yeezy Christian Academy, which has since become Donda Academy, in 2020 and was making just $18,400 a year and claims he was terminated in August 2022 after reporting several safety issues to the school, including that the window frames had no glass in them.
The new lawsuit against Kanye West
Meadows is now seeking legal recourse, claiming wrongful termination. He began working as an assistant principal at Donda Academy in 2020, when it was still known as Yeezy Christian Academy, earning a monthly salary of approximately $18,000. Additionally, he received assistance with housing to reside closer to the school.
Although he was reinstated in a lesser position, Meadows was fired for a second time in August 2022. He asserts that the problems persisted and that he faced retaliation from certain staff members at the academy.
In the lawsuit, Meadows said the school’s main classroom did not have glass in its skylight ‘because [Ye] expressed that he did not like glass’.
He claimed this resulted in water pouring into the classroom and causing a mouldy smell.
“In the middle of the main classroom, a skylight was left without glass, inevitably allowing rain to fall directly inside, where water would soak into the floor, which would lead to a mouldy smell for the next few days,” the suit alleged.
Meadows also claimed poor electrical wiring at Yeezy Christian Academy caused ‘an electrical fire started near the student eating area’.
The former assistant principal alleged the school also lacked access to “working hot water to effectively wash hands or other items which then created serious sanitation issues and had issues with the septic tank, which would overflow every other day, causing a terrible smell.”
It’s not the first time, and likely won’t be the last, that rapper Kanye has made headlines in the international press. From his high-profile relationship and subsequent breakup with Kim Kardashian to accusations of sharing explicit images of his ex-partner, as well as controversial statements about Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust and the problems seem to keep piling up for Kanye West.
