Prince Harry snubbed from another award after failing to win over public voters

Prince Harry has been dealt a heavy new blow as he has been snubbed from another award after failing to land the shortlist for the upcoming National Television Awards, a nomination that is determined by popular vote.

The Duke of Sussex was longlisted to win a spot for the award’s TV interview category for his famous 95-minute interview with journalist Tom Bradby titled ‘Harry: The Interview.’ During the talk Harry spoke exclusively on the eve of the publication of his explosive autobiography Spare in January.

More than 4.1 million people tuned in to watch Harry’s one-on-one interview, during which he revealed details surrounding his strained relationship with his brother, father, and the rest of the Royal Family. He also dove into his controversial opinions on both the monarchy and the media. Although the interview was met with great success, it did not beat the groundbreaking Oprah Winfrey interview with Harry and Meghan that brought in over 12.4 million viewers.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docuseries also did not make the National Television Awards longlist, which is determined before the public gets to vote on the shortlist. This year, viewers preferred other hit shows for the shortlist including chat show The Graham Norton and comedy series Rosie Ramsey Show. Audiences also put the show Piers Morgan Uncensored before Prince Harry’s works, in which Morgan has made outbursts regarding Harry and Meghan.

This award snub is not the first Prince Harry has experienced this year as Meghan and Harry’s record-breaking six-part docuseries ‘Harry & Meghan’ was also snubbed for an Emmy nomination. The news came as a surprise to some experts as they were “100% confident” the controversial series would win a prize.

Harry & Meghan, directed by Liz Garbus, broke Netflix’s record for biggest documentary debut with more than 81.6 million hours watched within four days of airing in December of last year. The show averaged over 4.5 million viewers in the first week – a huge number that beat the viewership of both Stranger Things and The Crown.

The docuseries highlighted the couple’s high profile love story from their courtship to their difficult decision to step back as working members of the Royal family. The series included interviews from family members, friends, journalists, and historians explaining the inner-workings of the royal family. The series was met with controversy from the public as it included claims which centered around discrimination allegations towards Meghan, who is biracial.
