Alick Macheso dates Makhadzi at Jam Afro Festival

In what promoters call Jam Afro Festival, the Zimbabwean guitar maestro Alick Macheso will share the stage with South Africa’s Makhadzi. It will surely be a weekend to remember for Zimbabweans, South Africans, Ugandans and Tswanas in the United Kingdom as they get to see their favourite artists performing live on stage.

The star-studded lineup features Alick Macheso, Makhadzi, Vee Mampeezy, Winnie Nwagi and Sulu Chimbetu.

Jam Afro Festival

Earlier fans were treated to a video of the South African dance queen Makhadzi as she met up with Alick Macheso and it was just a lovely sight.

If you didn’t have plans this weekend I suggest trying the Jam Afro Festival in Leicester for a night of dancing and singing. Here is a bit of background of the top musicians that will be performing at the Jam Afro Festival.

Vee Mampeezy

Odirile Ishmael Sento, popularly known as Vee or Vee Mampeezy, is a Motswana singer, songwriter and the CEO of Lamalanga and Black Money Makers Records. The 40-year-old musician from Botswana is popular for these music genres: House music, Kwaito, Funk, Dance/Electronic, and Afrobeats.

Winnie Nwagi

Winnie “Nakanwagi” Nwagi is a Ugandan singer signed to Swangz Avenue, best known for her award-winning single Musawo. She was the second runner-up in the second season of “CocaCola Rated Next” in 2014. She performed with Afrigo Band in a live performance at Guvnor called “Friday Night Live” in April 2016.

Nwagi’s music career began when she became the second runner-up during the second season of “CocaCola Rated Next” music competitions in 2014. She was signed by Swangz Avenue and released a number of songs including Embeera, Katono Katono, Gwenoonya and Kyowulila.

She released her commercially successful single Musawo in early 2016. Musawo was played on both radio and television and attracted the attention of the Ugandan singer Irene Ntale when she did an acoustic version of the song.

Makhadzi

Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona (born 30 June 1996), known by her stage name Makhadzi, is a South African singer. Born and raised in Ha-Mashamba, Limpopo, her career began at the age of 12 as a dancer prior to pursuing a music career as a singer, while she was attending school she signed a record deal with Rita Dee Entertainment and released Muhwalo Uya Ndemela in 2015. She garnered local attention after her single “Tshanda Vhuya” was released in 2017. Her eighth studio album Matorokisi (2019), debuted at number two in South Africa.

Makhadzi’s ninth studio album Kokovha (2020), became one of her biggest successes and debuted at number one on the South African iTunes albums charts. It contained the chart-topping singles “Amadoda”, “Mphemphe”, “Kokovha” and “Tshikwama”. Her tenth studio album African Queen (2021) was certified gold in South Africa.

Makhadzi’s eleventh studio album African Queen 2.0 (2022), featuring the production of Wesley “Blaq skopion” Diamond of black skopion music reached number one in the country.

Alick Macheso

Alick Macheso is a Zimbabwean musician. Simbaradzo was and still is the best-selling album of all time in Zimbabwe with hits like “Mundikumbuke” and “Amai VaRubhi”. He was to follow on the success of Simbaradzo with Zvakanaka Zvakadaro. He can dance, sing, and play the guitar. He has a lot of albums under his belt and he is definitely one of Zimbabwe’s most successful entertainers.

Sulu Chimbetu

Sulumani Chimbetu is a Zimbabwean Dendera Music vocalist, guitarist, composer, stage performer and businessman. He is the frontman for the Orchestra Dendera Kings and son of the late Dendera music icon Simon Chimbetu. He first came to the public’s attention in 2004 when he joined The Orchestra Dendera Kings. Since then he has had a career marked by successful collaborations with several local artists as well as an international tour schedule
