Villarreal attacker Nicolas Jackson is reportedly on the verge of signing for Chelsea after completing his medical with the London club.
It’s going to be a busy summer for the Blues, with Mauricio Pochettino expected to offload and bring in several players ahead of next season.
Now, it seems Jackson is going to be the second new signing through the door after Chelsea confirmed the arrival of Christopher Nkunku.
Pochettino has made attacking players his transfer priority. Last term, Chelsea scored just 38 goals in the Premier League. This was the main reason they finished in a disappointing 12th place in the table.
According to reputed transfer journalist David Ornstein, Jackson is very close to finalizing a switch to Stamford Bridge.
On Twitter, he wrote: “Nicolas Jackson has completed his medical ahead of a proposed move from Villarreal to Chelsea.
“Chelsea are paying a release clause of slightly above €35m to sign the Senegal international forward.”
Last season, the 22-year-old made 26 LaLiga appearances for Villarreal. In the process, he scored 12 goals and made four assists. This gives him an impressive average of 0.62 goal contributions per game.
A versatile player, Jackson has the ability to play as a centre-forward or as a winger on either flank. So, he could provide cover in several positions for Chelsea next term.
After Ornstein’s report, Fabrizio Romano has revealed more details about the Senegalese star’s impending arrival.
On Twitter, he said: “Understand Nico Jackson’s contract at Chelsea will be valid until June 2031 — it’s an eight-year deal!
“Medical completed in two days, first part yesterday and second today. €37m to Villarreal, a bit more than the release clause but better payment terms.”
Jackson looks destined to become a Chelsea player. So, it will be interesting to see what impact he can have on the team. Pochettino will no doubt want goals from the attacker.
Indeed, with Kai Havertz expected to join Arsenal this summer, it will be interesting to see whether Jackson will prove to be an adequate replacement.
He is widely regarded as a player with a lot of potential. So, he is only expected to get better as he gains more experience at the highest level.
With that in mind, Jackson could prove to be an excellent long-term investment for Chelsea.
