French football star Kylian Mbappé “honoured” to be visiting Cameroon, his country “of origin”
Kylian Mbappe has visited Cameroon for a three-day trip and says he is honoured to be visiting his country of origin. Mbappé touched down in Cameroon on Thursday and has been the focus of huge public interest. Upon leaving the airport he was taken away in an SUV with tinted windows and protected by apolice convoy.
He is spending his time on the off season visiting Cameroon. The 24-year-old’s father is of Cameroonian heritage and Mbappé has a number of charitable interests based in the African country.
As reported by Le Parisien yesterday, the 24-year-old was asked about “where Kylian would be playing soon“, the forward gave an elusive, tongue-in-cheek answer in the third person: “Kylian is in Cameroon for the time being, and that’s the most important thing. I want to make the most of my stay, get the most out of my holidays. I want to enjoy being with the people of Cameroon, that’s my only concern.”
While in his father’s country of birth, the footballer will also discuss several projects he is undertaking to help the country, having met with Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute. Speaking after the meeting, the France captain indicated that some of the initiatives had already begun and involved working with schools, while others could not be revealed yet.
It is his first trip to Cameroon since he was a teenager and is carrying out humanitarian work on his trip on behalf of his foundation, which seeks to help young people achieve their goals.
Cameroonian journalist Henry Tataw Ekambi reported that one of the first things Mbappé did when he landed was to visit a school for “children with hearing and speech disabilities that his foundation is funding”.
This shows how the star is giving back to the community, where he came from.
