Selena Gomez is celebrating another year around the sun by encouraging others to give back. The “Only Murders in the Building” star took to Instagram Saturday to commemorate her 31st birthday, telling her fans the one thing she wants them to do for her special day.
“I am thankful for so much in my life and one of the things I am most thankful for is the work we’ve been able to do with the Rare Impact Fund through @Rarebeauty,” she captioned the post of herself blowing out candles on a floral-adorned cake.
“Because of YOU we’ve been able to raise awareness and increase access to mental health services for young people. This is my true passion in life.”
Gomez said that doesn’t want people to get her a gift for her birthday but wants them to “donate to the Rare Impact Fund.”
“If you have the means, consider donating to help us make a difference. I LOVE YOU ALL!” she concluded.
Several fans flooded the “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum’s Instagram comments with sweet birthday wishes.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY WONDROUSLY BEAUTIFUL QUEEN!!!! We absolutely ADORE you more than words can express!!! 💓💐🎉💓,” wrote one fan.
“@selenagomez happy birthday you beautiful soul! I hope your day is filled with love and happiness.❤️🫶🏻,” added another.
“Happy birthday queen! Thanks for playing such a big part in my childhood,” commented a third fan.
“HBD to the Best human alive, I love u Sel ❤️,” said a fourth supporter.
Gomez has long used her platform to spread awareness about mental illness.
She created the Rare Impact Fund in 2020 as “part of her commitment to addressing mental health and self-acceptance,” per the fund’s website.
Additionally, she has gotten candid about her own mental health journey.
Last year, it was revealed that the “Calm Down” singer — who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020 — had past feelings of not wanting to be alive after she suffered a “mental breakdown” during her 2016 “Revival” tour, which she canceled early.
“At one point she’s like, ‘I don’t want to be alive right now. I don’t want to live,’” Gomez’s former assistant Theresa Mingus told the camera in the actress’ Apple TV+ documentary, “My Mind and Me.”
Over the years, Gomez has taken social media breaks to protect her mental health from negative commenters.
Most recently, the “Love You Like a Love Song” singer announced a hiatus from the sites after her drama with her ex Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, began to reignite online.
