Sam Asghari has broken his silence following news of his divorce from pop star Britney Spears.
“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” the “Family Business” star wrote via his Instagram Story Thursday.
“We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always,” he continued, adding a casual “s–t happens.”
Asghari noted that “asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic],” so he is asking for “everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
Asghari filed for divorce from Spears Wednesday just hours after Page Six confirmed that the duo was headed for Splitsville following one year of marriage.
TMZ reported on Aug. 16 that there was trouble in paradise for the estranged couple following cheating rumors — allegedly on Spears’ behalf.
Insiders claimed Asghari, 29, confronted the “Circus” singer, 41, about the allegations a week before, leading to a heated argument and the actor moving out of their shared home.
“It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce,” one insider told the outlet.
It’s unlikely that Asghari will walk away from a divorce with much of Spears’ assets after he willingly signed a prenup ahead of their June 2022 wedding, Page Six previously revealed.
“Britney and Sam signed a prenup in her favor,” an insider told us last summer. “Any money she made before the wedding is protected.”
However, TMZ reported that the pop star will likely cut a check to her ex.
Rumors about Asghari and Spears being on the rocks surfaced ahead of their first wedding anniversary when TMZ released a documentary about the hitmaker’s life in May.
The outlet claimed the pair’s marriage was in “deep trouble,” alleging the “Baby One More Time” singer got physical with Asghari during screaming matches.
At the time, the former personal trainer shut down the “disgusting” allegations, slamming the documentary and those who were involved for trying to profit off of his wife.
“I found it absolutely disgusting for the people who were in her life when she didn’t have a voice, they went and told her story like it was theirs,” Asghari said in a video posted to Instagram at the time.
Spears further attempted to defend her relationship by posting a PDA video of her kissing the actor under a flower arch.
“I feel so blessed to be with such an incredible husband who inspires me everyday !!” she captioned the Instagram video May 17.
Spears and Asghari announced they were engaged after five years of dating in September 2021. It wasn’t long until the two tied the knot at the singer’s Thousand Oaks, Calif., mansion alongside A-list celebrities.
The “Hold Me Closer” singer was also previously married to Jason Alexander for 55 hours in 2004. She then wed Kevin Federline later that year, however, they called it quits in 2007. Spears and Federline share two sons: Sean, 17, and Jayden, 16.
