Nashawn Breedlove, who was famous for his role and rapping skills in 8 Mile with Eminem has sadly passed away aged 46.
Family members told TMZ that the actor passed away in his sleep on Monday at his home in New Jersey. His loved ones are yet to learn of the cause of death. Fans will remember Nashawn flexing his rapping skills in a rap battle against the Mockingbird rapper in the 2002 movie, which also starred the late Brittany Murphy and Marvel’s Anthony Mackie.
In 8 Mile, which is loosely based on Eminem – real name Marshall Mathers – life, Nashawn played Lotto, and sent the crowd wild when he took Eminem’s character B-Rabbit on with one of his bars. Before his big break in the film, Nashawn was rapping under the alias OX and even featured on a track from the movie’s soundtrack, collaborating with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.
Hip-hop artist Mickey Factz was one of the first to pay tribute to the actor on Instagram. He shared a clip of Nashawn rapping and added the caption: “RIP to one of the few emcees to beat Eminem… Lotto from 8 Mile.
“Who’s friends lovingly called him, OX. You will be missed for your tenacity and aggressiveness,” he added. Another fan in the comments shared a moving tribute, detailing their experience with the actor.
“NOOOOOO! I met Ox when we were Teens,” they wrote. “He was in a group called The Now. Illest group of emcees I’ve ever met in my friggin life.
“They SMOKED my group in a showcase competition but they were humble and cool. Ox stood out. Super good dude. I lost touch with him before 8 Mile. I had high hopes for that man. Sad to hear this news. May he RIP?”
A close pal of Nashawn’s added: “My best friend and brother since 15 years old. We’ve been through it all Rest Easy my bro I love you and the family and my nephew OX FOREVER.” A second typed: “Thank you for posting this. Nashawn was so humble and modest that he didn’t even know he had true fans.
“He was so talented. Not only was he an amazing MC he sang better than Luther. He blessed me with my son @youngzaak and I swear that is Nashawn to the 10th power. I will always be his biggest fan. If y’all only knew his talent. Please pray for our strength it is needed. Thank you again @mickey.factz,” they concluded.
