A man has been charged by counter terrorism police after suspicious substances were found in a village. Bedfordshire Police made the discovery at an address in Caddington, near Luton, on 6 May.
Harry Whittaker, 31, of Caddington, is accused of four counts of possessing an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose, the Metropolitan Police said. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London later.
Mr Whittaker is also charged with one count of possessing a regulated substance without a license. Cdr Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said searches of the address were now complete, but added officers were still working to “ensure the safe removal of all materials”.
“I’d like to thank the local community for their support and understanding as we continue to carry out this work,” he said.
“Finally, I ask that people avoid commenting or speculating any further about this case now that charges have been made, so that the criminal justice process can run its course.
