Ed Sheeran becomes UK’s undisputed king of streaming

Ed Sheeran has officially ascended to the throne as the UK’s undisputed king of the streaming era, with his 2017 album “Divide” topping the charts as the number one biggest album. The singer continues to dominate the music industry, as his album, which broke the Official Singles Chart upon its release in March 2017, has remained a staple in the Top 20.

According to Billboard, Sheeran has dominated the Official Singles Chart’s streaming era with his 2017 album and its lead single, “Shape of You.” Both the album and the song have consistently held the number one position since their release.

With an impressive 4.26 million chart units, “Shape of You” has officially become the biggest song of the streaming era. This achievement highlights Sheeran’s significant impact on the music landscape and his ability to connect with audiences worldwide.

Reflecting on this monumental success, Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to be celebrating this exciting landmark for the Official Charts, 10 years since the way we measured music fandom changed forever.”

He added, “It feels like only yesterday that streams were ushered into the Official Singles Chart for the first time – and yet we seem to have enjoyed access to every track in music history, instantly, delivered like water through a digital pipe, for a lifetime.”

Ed Sheeran’s enduring popularity and his record-breaking achievements underscore his pivotal role in shaping the streaming era and solidifying his status as a global music icon.
