The renowned South African singer-songwriter Bulelwa Mkutukana, known as “Zahara,” has tragically passed away at the age of 36 following a prolonged hospital stay. The family of the artist, famed for her song “Loliwe,” had previously disclosed her critical health condition.

A close friend of Zahara confirmed to Daily Sun that the family plans to issue a formal statement. On Monday, November 27, her team and family released a statement expressing their gratitude for the overwhelming support and love Zahara received following recent reports about her health. The statement emphasized the family’s appreciation for the public’s concern and provided an update on their daughter’s situation.

What Killed Zahara

Zahara’s family revealed that she was hospitalized for a week due to physical discomfort. The medical team was diligently attending to her, with updates awaited. The family emphasized the importance of privacy, noting that any official information about Zahara’s health would be shared through her social media or by her directly, acknowledging the spread of false information online.  They expressed hope for her quick recovery and return to music, her passion and a source of healing for many.

Zahara‘s musical journey began with TS Records, where she released her successful double platinum album “Loliwe.” Over her career, she released eight projects, including the 2023 EP “Power Of A Woman.” She was a decorated artist, with 17 South African Music Awards, three Metro FM Awards, and a Nigeria Entertainment Award. Zahara was recognized in the BBC’s 100 Women list in 2020 and served as a guest judge on Idols South Africa in 2021. She leaves behind her parents and five siblings.
